Ghoulishly Sweet Treats!

broken-glass-cupcakes-2

These spooky cupcakes are delicious as well as eye-catching! Let yourself have some fun drizzling fake blood over the finished product (and maybe onto the white tray you display your cupcakes on for added effect!). The idea is to make your standard red velvet cupcakes (you can use a box mix, just substitute milk for water and add an extra egg to make your cupcakes more memorably yummy!) and then add white icing and shards of clear sheet candy.

The easiest way to make the glass-like candy shards is to mix 1 cup of sugar and ½ cup of light corn syrup in a microwave safe bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and microwave for 3 minutes. Remove (carefully!) and stir. Then replace plastic wrap and zap it again for 3 minutes. The bowl is super hot now so be careful as you remove it and then pour it onto a cookie sheet that has wax paper on it that you have sprayed with no-stick spray. Let it harden for at least 3 hours. Once it’s hardened, you can break it into realistic looking glass-like shards to pierce your cupcakes!!

The ‘blood’ that you can drizzle over your creation is a mixture of sweetened condensed milk and red food coloring. To achieve a blood-like color, add the tiniest amount of black food coloring and mix until you are happy with the color!

Boo!

Nutter Butter Ghosts

These are on the far easy end of the ‘easy to hard’ Halloween treat scale!

Step 1: Purchase Nutter Butters, regular and tiny chocolate chips and a couple of bars of white chocolate.

Step 2. Place the Nutter Butters in your freezer overnight.

Step 3. Melt the white chocolate.

Step 4. Dip the Nutter Butters in the white chocolate and then place them on a sheet of wax paper.

Step 5. Place two mini chocolate chips as the eyes and one regular chocolate chip as the mouth.

Step 6. Let them dry.

Step 7. That’s it, you’re done. 🙂

Halloween Krispie Treats

The idea here is to make rice krispie treats the way you normally do with a few Halloween-themed changes. If you have never made rice krispie treats before, that is amazing, this is your lucky day! First, chop up about ¼ cup of candy corn.  Heat 1 full bag of marshmallows and 3 tablespoons of butter in a pot on your stovetop. Stir this sticky mixture and as it melts, add about ½ teaspoon of vanilla.  Remove the mixture from the heat and mix in 6 cups of rice krispies and the chopped up candy corn. For extra effect you can add one drop of orange food-coloring. Spread this mixture evenly into a greased 9×13 pan and decorate the top of the mixture with whole candy corn.  After a few minutes you can cut into the shapes you want and serve to your happy guests!
